Right-click menus and selecting several things
Every canvas has a right-click menu made of its own commands: the deck editor, the dashboard editor and its Pages, the dashboard viewer and Preview, the report editor and its Pages, the paginated builder and the story editor. Each row has the name and the shortcut it has on the quick bar, in More actions and in Ctrl+K. A command that can’t run now is dimmed; one that doesn’t apply to what you right-clicked is left out.
Open the menu
Section titled “Open the menu”- Right-click an item (an element, a card, a block) or the empty canvas around the items. On an item outside the selection, the right-click selects it first; inside the selection, the selection stays and the menu acts on all of it. On the empty canvas the selection is cleared, and the menu is the slide’s or the page’s.
Shift+F10or the Menu key opens it from the keyboard: the menu of the item the keyboard is on (selected first), else of the selection, else of the canvas. The arrow keys move through it,Esccloses it, and the keyboard goes back to where it was.- On a Mac,
Ctrl-click opens it, with or withoutShift, as a right-click does. - Text you are typing in keeps the browser’s own menu, with its spelling suggestions and its paste. In a story,
Shift-right-click keeps it anywhere.
Select several things
Section titled “Select several things”Shift-click, orCtrl-click, adds an item to the selection, or takes it out. On a Mac,⌘-click does it, andCtrl-click opens the menu instead.- Drag a box from the empty canvas to select what it touches; with
ShiftorCtrlheld, the box adds to the selection. Ctrl+Aselects every element of the slide, or every card or block of the page.
With several items selected, the quick bar and the menu line them up, match their sizes, space them evenly and group them.
Groups
Section titled “Groups”Decks, dashboards and reports group the same way:
| Do | What happens |
|---|---|
Ctrl+G (⌘G on a Mac) |
the selected items become one group. Groups don’t nest: grouping items from groups merges them into one |
Ctrl+Shift+G |
every group the selection touches is taken apart |
| Click an item of a group | the whole group is selected; it moves, copies and locks as one |
| Click it again, or double-click | you are inside the group, the item under the pointer selected alone, to change it |
Esc |
back to the whole group |
In Layers a group is a folder with its items under it, and you can rename it. Each canvas adds its own:
- Decks — a group also resizes (its elements’ frames, never their text’s size), aligns, changes layer and comes in
as one when presenting;
Entergoes into it. See Make a deck. - Dashboards — each card keeps its own size, and a group stops whole at the grid’s edge; the phone layout ignores groups. See Multi-select and card grouping.
- Reports — a group’s blocks are on one page, and the group stops whole at the page’s edge. See Select, group and right-click.
Stories and paginated reports have no groups.
