Connect DataDatabases

IBM Db2

IBM Db2 is available in the connection wizard when its required client is enabled on your DataSquares server.

Server prerequisite

The standard API installation does not include the IBM Db2 client. Ask your administrator to build and deploy a server image with the compatible client and restart the API. Installing a client on your own computer does not enable it on the server.

The wizard checks the current server and disables the tile while availability is unknown or the client cannot load. If the check fails, use Retry availability check. Once the tile is enabled, follow the steps below and Test Connection to verify database access. A successful client check does not verify credentials, network access, TLS, or query compatibility.

  1. In DataSquares, open Data Sources and choose Connect Source. The Connect a data source page opens.

  2. Pick IBM Db2 on that page (search or browse by category).

  3. Fill in the connection details below, then test the connection and save.

Connection details

Field What to enter
Host The hostname or IP address of your IBM Db2 server.
Port Prefilled with 50000 (the IBM Db2 default) — change it if your server listens elsewhere.
Database The database to connect to.
Username / Password Credentials for a user with read access to the tables you want to analyze.
TLS On by default: Use SSL/TLS encryption connects encrypted and verifies the server certificate. Tick Trust self-signed certificate for a private CA; turn TLS off only for a server that has none.

Grant the connection user read-only access — DataSquares only ever reads from your source.

Characters the connection fields cannot contain

DataSquares opens the connection through IBM’s CLI driver, which reads it as KEYWORD=value; pairs. A value that the driver could read as more than one setting, such as a password that names another host, is refused when you save or test the connection:

Database, Username, Password a semicolon (;), a line break or a NUL character anywhere, or { as the first character (after any spaces)
Host anything except letters, digits, ., -, _, : and square brackets: a host name, an IPv4 address or a bracketed IPv6 address
Port anything except a whole number from 1 to 65535

The error names the field and never repeats what you typed. If the Db2 password of the connection user contains one of these characters, give that user a password without them.
